Transitioning to TK/K

If your child will turn 4 years old on or before September 2, 2026, they will not remain at Robert Shearer Preschool for the 2026–2027 school year. Instead, they will transition to Transitional Kindergarten (TK) or Kindergarten. All eligible students must complete registration for TK or Kindergarten through their home school.

We will host several virtual parent information meetings via Zoom beginning in Spring 2026. These sessions will provide important details about the transition process,  placement options, and answers to frequently asked questions. Updates and meeting links will be shared by Ms. Phillips and your child’s teacher through the RSPS Friday Newsletter and Class Dojo.

Placement decisions are made by your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Our team will conduct assessments and use the results to make individualized recommendations. Students may transition to a variety of settings based on their unique needs—including general education with supports, special day classes, or other specialized programs. Some placements are part-day, while others are full-day.  More information can be found in this presentation.   

Parents are important members of the IEP team, and your input will be requested as part of the decision-making process.

Registration

*Current MDUSD students DO NOT need to do the online enrollment since your child is already enrolled in the district.*  But ALL families must register for TK or K by going to the enrollment center to let them know they will be attending school for the following school year and to re-verify their address. 

Registration Location: You will register in person at Willow Creek Center in Concord.
